The draft cover of the manuscript in progress, showing the all important Kuhn Cycle. The book argues that society is now in the Model Crisis step. This is historically followed by the Model Revolution step. However, that route is so fraught with conflict and unpredictability that is would be to society's great benefit to consider if perhaps there is not a better way forward. The book argues that there is. It is the route shown in green. This fork in the road can be taken by the adoption of a suitable problem solving process, such as the one shown.

A Model in Crisis is the title of a book in progress. 13 out of a planned 23 chapters are done. This book is on hold while a shorter book, Analytical Activism, is completed. This is because Analytical Activism deals with the Transformation Problem, which must be solved before the wider audience for A Model in Crisis will be ready for its message.

The thesis of A Model in Crisis is that it is possible to take an analytical approach to the sustainability problem and solve it, if it is still solvable. This of course implies that an analytical approach is not presently being taken.

Much material from this book has been incorporated into Analytical Activism. Essentially Analytical Activism is an attempt to transform the environmental movement from Classic Activism to Analytical Activism, while giving a sneak preview of the core content of A Model in Crisis.

The Dueling Loops

The most popular page on the site by a factor of 3. This paper presents a simple model showing why activists have been unable to solve the sustainability problem, and an alternative solution strategy based on high leverage points.

The Phenomenon of Change Resistance

This is the key concept that starts people thwinking, and causes them to explore the rest of the site. The concept is subtle, but has the potential to change the sustainability problem from insolvable to solvable.

The Powell Memo

The most eye popping short read (7 pages) on the site, if you have never heard about it. The memo was written in 1971.

The Dueling Loops Videos

These average 8 minutes. They give a quick introduction to the Dueling Loops model and how it explains the tremendous change resistance to solving the sustainability problem.
